20. COLLABORATION STATIONS (Collaboration, Discussion, Feedback)

Description: This protocol is an effective way to utilize three instructional strategies at the same time while engaging every student.

Application: This method is especially useful for reviewing informational content.

Process: Place multiple copies (1/group) of topics or topic-specific questions in large envelopes, located at various stations. (Provide way to rotate responsibility of recorder.) Instruct students (in pre-determined groups of 3-5) to rotate through the stations, writing their team responses on color-coded sheets, telling them to take it to the front of the room and place it in their group’s stack. Monitor the pre-determined rotation time (usually 90 seconds-3 minutes, depending on the complexity and number of questions). Once the process is completed, distribute each set to another team for grading. (Be prepared to rule on controversial answers.) Tally all sheets and announce the winners of each station and the entire process.
