33. QUESTION-RESPONSE  (Questioning, Discussion, Feedback)

Description: Question-Response allows teachers to model the technique of answering a question with a question.

Application: Use Question-Response as a questioning skill builder in all subjects.

Process: Explain to students that not all questions are clear and by asking a question to the question, clarity is possible.  Share the following techniques:
  • Ask for more detail: dig into the topic by asking the questioner to explain more.
  • Challenge the question: ask the questioner if it is the right question to ask and suggest there are other questions first.
  • Ask a completely different question: alert the questioner that the line of questions may not be valid.
