42. USING TECH: TAGXEDO (Feedback, Writing)

Description:  Similar to Wordle, Tagxedo is a free, web-based word cloud creator that can be used to assess a student’s vocabulary comprehension. It creates a word cloud in a relevant shape, thus enhancing the meaning behind the choice of words.

Application: Tagxedo is used to check for student understanding of a concept, topic, or event.

Process: At the conclusion of a unit, reading, chapter, a period of time, etc. ask students to create a list of important terms, characters, dates, etc. that are relevant and noteworthy.  Using Tagxedo’s (www.tagxedo.com) instructions, ask students to find a “shape” that is also relevant to the topic and insert words.  Tell students to print the Tagxedo image and be prepared to justify shape choice.
