50. DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK PROMPTS (Feedback)
Description: Descriptive feedback is a critical part of formative assessment as it informs students on how they can improve their learning rather than just listing what they got wrong, thus making students more accountable in the act of improvement. The prompts provide timely focused feedback to students.
Application: Use feedback prompts when assessing writing assignments in most subjects.
Process: Assign writing task to students. Explain that when papers are returned there will be helpful suggestions for improvement and expected re-submission with corrections on specified date. Start with an obvious strength of the writing, mention areas of improvement, and finish with an improvement strategy.
