54. ACROSTIC (Writing, Feedback)

Description: An acrostic is a form of writing in which the first letter, syllable or word of each line, paragraph or other recurring feature in the text spells out a word or a message.

Application: Use acrostic as a scaffold, assessment, or review activity in most subjects.

Process: Have a word related to a topic in mind for this activity. Tell students to write the topic word vertically, capitalizing the letters. Instruct them to start each line of the acrostic with the capital letters written and emphasize that each line of the acrostic should consist of a word or phrase related to the topic.  Ask students to share acrostics with others, comparing and contrasting. Add a tech element by requiring the students to create their acrostic on a PowerPoint slide, adding an appropriate image(s). Gather all slides and create a slideshow.
