15. USING TECH: WORDLING (Discussion, Writing, Reading)
Description: This technique incorporates technology with verbal communication skills.
Application: This procedure is best used as a pre-reading or post-reading activity.
Process: Create a Wordle (www.wordling.com) from a non-fiction source. When used in a pre-reading activity, show students the Wordle and instruct them to generate a prediction of what the Wordle means and create a title and headline from that prediction. Have students share their answers, justifying their prediction and title/headline. When used in a post reading activity, put students into groups and tell them to reflect on the reading by creating a list of key words or ideas. Enter words at Wordle website, create and print. Display each Wordle so that groups can discuss similarities and differences.
