17. BASKETBALL (Questioning, Discussion, Feedback)
Description: Students answer questions for the opportunity to shoot a paper ball into a basket and earn points.
Application: Use the basketball game to review a unit.
Process: Prior to class, prepare review problems/questions or allow students to create the problems/questions themselves. Group the students into teams. Set up a basket (trash can), create a “basketball” from a wad of paper, and mark the “free throw line.” Explain the following rules: 1) a member from a team is given a problem to solve on the board; 2) if he answers correctly, he earns the opportunity to score a point by successfully shooting the ball into the basket; 3) if he answers incorrectly another team can earn one point by correctly answering the question and making the shot; and 4) as the game progresses, make sure that every student on the team answers a question.
