24. TRUE/FALSE/REVISE (Feedback, Discussion)
Description: This age-old activity allows students to discern whether supplied information is true or false and if false, to revise it.
Application: This protocol can be used to check concepts, assess learning, and recap topics.
Process: Have a theme or overall topic in mind and create statements on index cards, some all true, some all false, and some cards with part of the question correct, but also a part that is incorrect. Make as many sets of cards as necessary. Place students into pairs and hand out a set of cards to each partnership. Have one student within the pair read a statement and encourage the pair to discuss the answer. Tell them to notate the answer on a separate sheet of paper: if the statement is true, support the statement with two pieces of evidence; if the statement is false or partly false, correct the statement and support the change with specific evidences. Once complete, put pairs together to form groups of four. Ask students to compare answers and to reach consensus on the corrections. Collect answers, monitor and adjust, if necessary.
