30. FOLDABLE APPOINTMENTS (Writing, Discussion, Collaboration)
Description: In this fun and rigorous protocol, students make partner appointments, based on the number of sections in a foldable and move to a different appointment to work on each section.
Application: Use the Foldable Appointments protocol to keep students actively engaged when processing a lot of information.
Process: Choose a foldable to suit the information that will be processed (It could be a flip book, shutter fold, accordion etc.) and have each student create a foldable for his use. Prior to class, make an appointment clock that corresponds with the amount of sections in the foldable (if the foldable has eight sections, then the clock reflects eight different appointments). On the day of the activity, allow students time to fill in their appointments. Create directions for each section of the foldable and display them on a projector, one section/appointment at a time. Tell students that each appointment is timed, between five and ten minutes and to find their first appointment and begin work on the first section of the foldable. Repeat this process, advancing appointments and sections. When the foldable is filled, remind students that it can be used for review.
