Process: Share Wallace Stevens poem with students and ensure they understand the significance of the work. Assign a particular reading, such as a novel, play, or chapter that lends itself to poetry. As students work through the piece, insert stanza assignments that challenge students to see a different view of the character or chapter. (Throughout the entire assignment, allow students to share parts of their poem in a whole class setting.) Collect and keep each stanza until the end of the work. Return the stanzas in order for students to make final revisions. Remind them to combine their stanzas in proper format and submit.
