40. PICTURE OF THE DAY (Discussion, Writing)
Description: Picture of the Day is an activity that gets students to talk in a foreign language class for the first ten minutes.
Application: Make use of this protocol as a daily bell ringer in foreign language class.
Process: Select visual images that correspond with the current unit of study. Every day, as students arrive to class, have image projected and ask students to write for one to two minutes any words (in the foreign language) that correspond to the image. After the two minutes, elicit verbal responses from the students. As time progresses within the course, remind students that the conversation must reflect the level of coursework. Limit this activity to the first five to eight minutes of class.
