40. QUESTIONING FOR CONSENSUS (Questioning, Discussion, Collaboration)
 
Description: Consensus building and questioning are skills that must be practiced in order to be proficient.  Questioning for Consensus gives the teacher ways to make it happen in class.
 
Application: Use in any subject with whole group, teams, and/or pairs. 
 
Process: Depending on the overall objective of the assignment, prepare questions. When students meet, review the ideas behind consensus building and practice with them before they are evaluated.  Start with open-ended questions that spark thinking.  Use closed questions to narrow the group’s answers to a manageable number.
