46. GLOSSARY GUESS (Writing, Feedback, Discussion)
Description: Based on a popular game, Glossary Guess is a fast-paced game that allows students to determine factual information through contextual clues and analysis.
Application: This can be used in conjunction with lecture and is particularly suitable for technical content that contains key concepts and definitions.
Process: Have a supply of index cards at the ready for this activity. Form students into pairs and present a key term related to the content. Tell teams to use the index card and write a real or imaginary definition, guiding them to make it look as authentic as possible. Collect the definitions and insert the “official” definition within the set. Tell students that they must listen to all definitions first before deciding which is correct. Read each card out loud and challenge the teams to identify the correct one. (Identification can be done in many ways, such as numbering the statements or instructing students to jot down key phrases/statements.)
