46. THREE PEOPLE I MEET (Discussion, Writing, Reading)

Description:  The Three People I Meet protocol is a unique way for students to practice summarization skills, as well as solidify content understanding for any subject.

Application:  Use this protocol to provide a scaffold for students as they strengthen summarization skills and/or peer tutor.

Process: Assign a short article(s) or section(s) of text in class or as homework. On class day, hand out a 3.5 x 5 index card and tell students to write fifteen to twenty-five words from the reading on their cards. At a predetermined signal, instruct students to take their cards and retell the article/text to three different students, the note card being the scaffold for the student.
