51. PRACTICE PRESENTATIONS (Feedback, Writing, Discussion, Collaboration)
Description: Through practice, peer review, and self-assessment, students can improve all aspects of a presentation before a final grading.
Application: This strategy can be used for any type of presentation.
Process: Assign project that has a presentation element and provide appropriate rubric with expectations, presentation check list (Addendum below) and due dates. Go over documents and include at least one practice presentation day, scheduled a few days before the final presentation date. On the practice day, form students into groups of three or four and provide them with the presentation check list (should correspond with rubric), one per person for each presentation. (If there are four in a group, each student gets four checklists.) Monitor groups and tell them to keep all checklists until practice presentations have been seen. At appropriate time, allow students to give checklists to each other with time for clarifying questions. Be available for students who may need extra guidance before the actual presentation day.
