52. I KNOW THE ANSWER! ASK ME! (Discussion, Writing)
Description: Similar to Find Someone Who Knows, this brief activity focuses on building vocabulary to strengthen understanding of a subject or topic.
Application: Use this activity as an introduction or review of a topic.
Process: Have a word in mind with numerous synonyms that will build understanding of the topic. Ask students to create a grid with three rows and two columns for a total of six squares (or two rows, two columns each, etc.). Announce the word and tell them to write two additional words that are similar in meaning, placing one word in each box. Direct all students to get up and ask one another for different possible answers, using only one answer from each encounter. Remind them to place the student’s initials next to the supplied word. When all squares are filled, tell participants to return to seats. Randomly select students to share their answers, accepting or rejecting the word based on the topic.
