58. FICTIONAL CASE STUDIES (Writing, Collaboration)
Description: Fictional Case Studies allows students to create and present a story that illustrates steps in a process.
Application: Use Fictional Case Studies as a way for students to explore a procedure or process.
Process: Hand out a diagram/chart that identifies the steps within a process. Present a story to students, frequently referring to the diagram. Next, distribute a summary of the story with notes that identify the different steps. Divide students into teams of three to five members each. Ask each team to create a story to also illustrate the process. Suggest to students that the story can be based on a real-life experience, a historical event, or a popular TV show. Allow time for brainstorming and writing. After the predetermined time, randomly choose teams to present their stories with ample time allowed for questions from the group.
