8. USING TECH: PLICKERS (Feedback, Collaboration)
Description: Plickers (www.plickers.com) is a powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices.
Application: Use Plickers for quick checks of understanding during a lesson.
Process: Download the Plickers Mobile App on smartphone or I Pad (Apple App Store or Android App on Google Play) as only the teacher needs the Plickers app on a mobile device; students do not need to download anything. Log in to website to create class lists and questions in the App with up to four answer choices. Print Plicker cards and assign a pre-numbered card for each student. Print on card stock, but do not laminate (https://www.plickers.com/PlickersCards_2up.pdf). Provide students with information on using the Plickers cards: 1) One Plickers card is assigned to each student; 2) After hearing a question, each student holds the Plicker card up toward the teacher with the desired letter on the top; 3) Teacher scans the entire class at once, taking five to ten seconds; 4) Teacher sees results immediately on his/her smartphone and computer screen; and 5) Students and teacher review results. Because this technology tool can be used in an instant, remind students to keep their Plickers in their notebooks. For more information see www.plickers.com
