84. MYSTERY MESSAGE (Writing)

Description: Mystery Message is an alternative to routine review formats.

Application: Apply the format in most subjects when reviewing basic events, vocabulary, people, places, etc. It can be used as a quick end of class review, as homework, or on substitute day.

Process:  Prior to class meeting and at the end of a topic or unit of study, develop a list of specific events, terms, people, and/or places relevant to the topic. From that list, create clues that accompany the terms.  Using the hangman game design, place clue above blank spaces and repeat. Example below:

Tell students there is an additional mystery message to be found by stringing the bolded letters together. As an alternative, ask students to create their own Mystery Messages, being specific in the assignment parameters.
