Happy New Year! This month's work is going to be very fun! Our last assignment looked at R-Time and SEL education as part of what makes Cross Creek unique. This month we will focus on another one of our signature elements: the use of a common set of instructional strategies. This is based on the foundational work of Job for the Future’s Common Instructional Framework (CIF) and the former NC New Schools' Aligned Instructional Strategies. While NCNS is no longer in operation and we have limited involvement with JFF, the rationale to continue to use the strategies is the same reason Cross Creek embraced the strategies in the first place: to make students college ready versus college eligible.
Cross Creek veterans need no refreshers on the points of the framework and indeed, they have helped create some fantastic protocols shared throughout the early college network. Having been a learning lab for other early colleges our veteran teachers had ample opportunities to "show what they know" and they didn't disappoint! Veterans will be using a presentation tech tool called Emaze for this assignment. The CC Newbies will do a deep dive into the framework, will get comfortable with the vocabulary, and will begin to enhance or modify practices as necessary. Instructions: 1. Click on button below for either "Veteran" (Five years or more at the early college) or "Newbie" (Less than five years at the early college), or "Administration" as the assignments are different. 2. View the linked article and videos, make notes, and be prepared to submit your answers as directed.
